Chi Rho, Lindisfarne Gospels by Holyrose Chi Rho, Lindisfarne Gospels by Holyrose
Finished version of [link]

The Chi-Rho page of the Lindisfarne Gospels
30x40cm, a bit larger than the original.
This is the result of 3 weeks of more than intense work...

Edit january 2006 : I've added the little sentence at the top of the Chi-Rho, and some other details here and there.
And I've taken a photo closer to the other page I've reproduced [link]

Really stunning, one of my favorite books- I've been doing knotwork for quite awhile but I'm not up to reproducing this yet! Wish I could fav it twice, once for the immense effort and once for the great success.

This is Latin, extracted from Matthew's Gospels, I didn't look for a formal translation, but it means more or less : "So was Jesus Christ's genesis. His mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph."

I'm not thinking to colour it for the moment... it would be too difficult (the lines are so minute...)... but, when I'm at ease with Celtic knots and designs, I may try to make something coloured :)
Anyway, thanks a lot for your fav and comment.

I wasn't sugesting you color this, I can see that it is already done in black and white, I was aluding to the baffeling skill of the aincients. This is still the most intricate contemporary illumination I have ever seen.

A big thanks for your comment, fav, and devwatch :).
For sure The Lindisfarne Gospels is one of the most beautiful, intricate, and fascinating manuscript ever... or else I wouldn't have spent such a long time reproducing that page...
But I must admit my version remains very very far from the beauty and technical skill of the original... One day or another, I may reproduce another page... I'll try to do better!!
